Evacuated to hospital in England

From the battlefield with the 8th Bn., William was admitted to the No. 3 Stationary Hospital in Boulogne, France and after a few days he eventually ended up back in England and was admitted to the Prince of Wales Hospital, London on 9th December 1917.

Whilst in the Prince of Wales Hospital, William was involved in an altercation with another patient. On 18th January 1918, he attempted to take a knife from a “drunkard” and sustained a knife wound to the right hand.
